Sage 50 Accounts Software TLS Changes

We’ve been informed by Sage that certain versions of Sage 50 Accounts software will stop working in the near future. Unfortunately, this is something that is outside of their control, and you may have already seen communications from Sage regarding this.

If your software is affected you will need to update your software before 30th September 2022.

Who is affected?

PERPETUAL versions 23.2 – 26.2  – The software will stop working on 30.09.2022. You will need to upgrade to compatible software.

PERPETUAL versions less than 23.2 or higher than 26.2 – The software will continue to work. No action required.

SUBSCRIPTION versions 20 – 26.2 – The software will stop working on 30.09.2022. You will need to upgrade to a version higher than 26.2, which you are entitled to at no additional cost as part of your subscription.

SUBSCRIPTION versions less than 20 or higher than 26.2 – The software will continue to work. No action required.

Why is this happening?

Older versions of Sage 50 Accounts software use a security protocol called TLS (Transport Layer Security) TLS is used for the Sage Licence Service and AutoUpdate which enables products to communicate securely.

Unfortunately, the TLS 1.0 / 1.1 protocol which is used by some versions of Sage has been discontinued with no future security updates scheduled. This means it poses a risk to any customers who continue to use it after 30th September 2022.

It’s important to note that TLS is not a protocol provided by Sage.

What do I need to do?

If your version is affected you must upgrade your Sage 50 Accounts software before 30th September 2022. However, before you upgrade we urge you to get in touch with us so we can check that the latest software is compatible with your operating system and if you use any additional 3rd party plugins, they’ll most likely need to be updated too.
