Sage 50 TLS 1.0/1.1 Depreciation FAQ’sNikki
Sage has announced that from September 2022, certain versions of the 50 Accounts software will stop working due to the deprecation of TLS 1.0/1.1. This affects both perpetual and subscription versions ranging from version 20 all the way up to version 26.2.
Read our FAQ’s below to find out everything you need to know about the Sage 50 TLS changes.
What is TLS?
TLS is an encryption protocol that encodes and protects Sage data as it moves between different application processes. Sage currently uses it for the Sage Licence Service and AutoUpdate to check that you are using valid Sage software each time you log in.
How does TLS work?
The TLS protocol has three primary purposes
- Encryption to hide the data from third parties as it is being transferred
- Authentication to ensure the parties transferring the data are trusted
- Integrity to verify that the data has not been forged or tampered with
Is TLS owned by Sage?
No, TLS is owned by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and is one of the most widely adopted security protocols across the internet.
What’s changing with TLS?
Older versions of TLS are being discontinued with no further updates which means they will stop working. The affected versions of TLS are TLS 1.0 and 1.1.
What versions of Sage are affected by the TLS change?
There are various versions of Sage software affected by the TLS changes. Sage 200 software that will stop working after the changes include 2013 up to, and including, Sage 200 Spring 2019. It will also affect perpetual license customers and those who use invoice payments and/ or bank feeds all the way up to version 2021 R1.
Sage 50 Accounts software versions that are affected include perpetual versions 23.2 – 26.2 and subscription versions 20 -26.2.
Can I disable TLS in my Sage software?
No, there is no way to disable the TLS protocol in your Sage software. Even if you disconnect the software from the internet this is no guarantee that it won’t be affected.
When will TLS 1.0 & 1.1 stop working?
The retired TLS protocol versions 1.0 and 1.1 will stop working on 30th September 2022.
What do I need to do next?
If you are using a version of Sage software that is affected by the TLS changes, you will need to upgrade before 30th September 2022. After this date you won’t be able to access your software or retrieve data.
